At Orleans Park School, we are committed to ensuring that every student can access a broad and ambitious curriculum, participate fully in school life and achieve their full potential.
Our approach combines high-quality classroom teaching, evidence-based interventions and a graduated approach to support. We believe that inclusive practice is everyone's responsibility and that every teacher is a teacher of SEND.
At Orleans Park School, our teaching and learning approach for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities is guided by our whole-school strategy, SEND in Focus.
This framework reflects our core belief that every teacher is a teacher of SEND and that inclusive practice is a shared responsibility across our school community.
Our SEND in Focus framework provides a clear and consistent approach to inclusive teaching.
It supports staff to identify needs early, remove barriers to learning and wellbeing, and maintain high expectations for all students.
The strategy promotes high-quality classroom teaching alongside targeted support to meet a wide range of needs, including:
|
1
Cognition and Learning
|
2
Communication and Interaction
|
3
Social, Emotional and Mental Health
|
4
Sensory and Physical Needs

Through adaptive teaching, clear instruction, effective scaffolding and responsive feedback, teachers create accessible learning environments where students feel supported, confident and engaged.
We prioritise strong relationships, positive behaviour support and student wellbeing, recognising that inclusion is fundamental to both academic success and personal development.
Our approach ensures that teaching is responsive to emerging or changing needs and enables all students to access a broad and ambitious curriculum.
SEND in Focus also reflects our commitment to building a culture of inclusion across the school. Staff work collaboratively to understand each student's needs, provide appropriate support and evaluate the impact of provision on progress, participation and outcomes.
We emphasise close partnership with families, effective deployment of Learning Support staff and consistent classroom practice to ensure students with SEND are welcomed, supported and able to thrive.
First and foremost, Orleans Park School is committed to delivering Quality First Teaching across all classrooms. We believe that high-quality, inclusive daily teaching, characterised by carefully differentiated lessons, clear scaffolding and evidence-based learning strategies. This the most effective tool to ensure all students, including those with additional needs, make excellent progress.
